President Park Geun-hye proposed measures to bolster economic cooperation between Korea and Canada on September 22. Park made her proposals during the Korea-Canada Business Forum, where nearly 120 business leaders from both countries were in attendance.

“Korea and Canada laid the foundation to upgrade their bilateral cooperation by signing this free trade agreement (FTA),” said Park.

“I hope that our bilateral relations can make further progress and that we can make a concerted effort together in order to cooperate on the creative industries, to diversify our areas of trade and to maximize the effects of the FTA,” she said.

Mentioning the success of the 3-D animated movie “Nut Job,” jointly made by Korean and Canadian companies, Park expressed her hope that the two countries could lead a worldwide era of the creative industries by jointly creating a range of innovative products, services and content by combining the creativity of people from both countries.

Earlier in the day, Park attended a tree-planting ceremony. She planted a tree in the garden of the official residence of Canada's governor general, with the governor general himself, David Johnston, and his spouse in attendance.

In a wish for the eternal advancement of Korea-Canada relations, the Canadian side chose a bitternut hickory to be planted in recognition of its long lifespan.
