“The five-year policy for the Moon Jae-in administration of state affairs” has been unveiled.

President Moon Jae-in announced to the nation from Cheong Wa Dae on July 19 that, “The five-year plan that the State Affairs Planning Advisory Committee announces today will serve as a blueprint and a compass that will lead us toward a new Korea.”

“The policy tasks for our new government have been decided with the active engagement of the people of the nation,” said President Moon. He then outlined the tasks being carried out by his new administration: eliminating deep-rooted irregularities and corruption, creating jobs, and changing the inter-Korean relationship, to name just a few.

The president pointed out that the agenda, with 100 specific policy items, was the outcome of months of discussion and consideration among the people, the government and the National Assembly. He called them challenges that his new administration would have to accomplish over the next five years.

“The policy tasks that are part of the plan represent many more promises that the government will have to keep over the next five years. We will make sure to keep these promises by having each government body fine-tune its specific policy items and thereby making them more feasible,” the president explained.

After the president spoke, Kim Jin-pyo, chief of the State Affairs Planning Advisory Committee, came to the podium to explain the slogan "A nation of the people, a Republic of Korea of justice." He said that this embodied the five main policy goals that form part of the government's new national vision: a government of the people, an economy pursuing co-prosperity, a nation taking responsibility for individual lives, well-balanced development across every region, the Korean peninsula of peace and prosperity.

The heads of each department on the committee, specializing in policy & administration, the economy, society, diplomacy & security, and policy planning, then each gave a presentation about their strategies and the 100 policy items.

The two vice chairmen of the committee -- Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination Hong Nam-ki and lawmaker Kim Tae-nyeon -- explained how the government plans to implement the plan, including securing financial resources and enacting and revising related regulations.
