Korea will host the next National Adaption Plans (NAP) Expo in April 2019.

The Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat have agreed that Korea will host the next National Adaptations Plans (NAP) Expo in 2019. The official announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the fifth NAP Expo on April 6 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

The NAP Expo is an official international conference of the U.N., where policy makers from all over the world gather to discuss planning and implementation for policies targeting climate change. Since the first event in Germany in 2013, it has been hosted annually by the UNFCCC Secretariat.

The Ministry of Environment said that the UNFCCC Secretariat requested that Korea host the global expo after the successful opening of a regional conference, NAP Expo Asia 2017, in Seoul in September last year.

More than 80 countries are expected to participate, and the specific forum venue is to be chosen after consultations.

With the launch of the NAP Expo 2019, the Ministry of Environment intends to enhance Korea’s status as an internationally leading country in terms of adopting policies to adapt to climate change.

Minister of Environment Kim Eun-kyung said, "By hosting the NAP Expo in Korea, we plan to introduce Korea’s environmental policies to adapt to climate change, and establish plans to support developing economies in this regard." She added, "This will contribute to the strengthened sustainability of the international community."
