With just a click, it is possible to receive a Korean-inspired food package in the U.S.

On Nov. 9, the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that until December, meal provider Blue Apron will demonstrate four recipes using Korean ingredients, including gochujang red pepper paste and tteok rice cake.

The Meal Kit is a delivery service; customers receive the ingredients and sauces via online orders. In order to introduce Korean ingredients to customers overseas, aT has affiliated with Blue Apron, who took up 30 percent of the meal kit market and has been introducing Korean recipes since last year.

The main recipes for this year are Korean-inspired shrimp & rice cakes, Korean pork & rice cakes with gochujang and Korean popcorn chicken with Korean-style beef. The price is about USD 36 per meal for four people.

Furthermore, the names of ingredients are properly marked and explained in detail for those who are new to Korean food.

The launch of last year’s recipe, gochujang and rice cakes, was highly favored, and aT was able to promote Korean ingredients exported once again this year.

Gochujang is very popular in the U.S. as a new hot sauce, and its export to the U.S. is steadily increasing,” said Shin Hyeon Gon, executive vice president for Food Industry & Export Promotion Division.
