High school was one of the key themes of Korean movies in the 1970s.

The film "Never Ever Forget Me" (1976) paints an innocent love story between teenagers with the backdrop of the 1970s when most students were universally clad in black uniforms. Boys had short buzz cuts and stiff collars, while girls had short bobs with white sailor collars.

The opening scenes show trains crowded with students on their way to school. Classmates share their troubles with learning English and boys and girls exchange playful jokes. After school dialogue between brothers and sisters shows the relationships within the family, either as strict elders-juniors or as casual equals.

The main characters Yeongsu and Jeongah frequently lock eyes on the train and develop a positive feeling toward one another.

They exchange their first conversation and walk side by side while looking for Yeongsu's school uniform cap, lost alongside the train tracks. They grow closer as they find common ground in having lost their parents at a young age and having been brought up by older siblings.

One day, Yoengsu leaves Jeongah for a short while to receive military training away from home. After the training, he returns home only to hear that Jeongah passed away the day before due to acute pneumonia. He makes up his mind to keep his memories of Jeongah deep in his heart.

With this film, the stars Im Ye-jin and Lee Duk-hwa became teen idols and they continue to play important roles on TV to this day.
