Jinan (지난, 齊南), the capital of Shandong Province in eastern China and just across the water from the Korean Peninsula, recently hosted the second Mini Book Fair in China on July 22 and 23, an event that allows publishers from Korea to introduce their books to mainland Chinese readers.

A total of 21 publishing companies and five e-book publishers attended the two-day book fair. On the first day of the event, representatives from the Korean companies held meetings with 11 Shandong-based publishing houses and 20 from other regions of China. There was also a seminar for discussions among authors and publishers on the conditions of and outlook for the publishing landscape in both nations.

On July 23, authors specializing in children’s books are set to introduce their illustrated books and stories. E-publishing experts will share their e-books and content during a seminar titled “Digital Publications of Korea and China.”

“This book fair offers a chance for publishing experts from both Korea and China to have in-depth discussions about publishing,” said an official from the Shandong Provincial Press and Publication Bureau. He also vowed to provide continuous government-level support for bilateral exchanges in the industry.

Prior to the July 22 event, the first Mini Book Fair in China was held in Xian, Shansi Province, last May. It brought together a total of 42 publishing houses from Korea and China. The third book fair will take place in Jilin Province in October.
