There's now even more delicious yumminess ready for next year's PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games!

The newly-announced “10 Korean Dishes Loved Around the World” have been designed to specifically cater to non-Korean visitors to Pyeongchang next year, appealing to palates from all around the globe.

This new list of 10 dishes was put together by the Korean Food Foundation in September last year. The dishes were selected so as to introduce the true taste of Korean food to the international visitors who will come to Korea for the Winter Olympics next year.

Unlike normal Korean meals that are composed of rice, soup and an array of side dishes, these 10 specially selected dishes are different in many ways. These dishes are all improved version of existing dishes but which have been made easy for non-Koreans to eat, while still maintaining their identity as genuine Korean food.

Rolled Samgyetang is a new version of ginseng chicken soup. The chicken bones have been removed and the meat is rolled together with ginseng so that people can more easily eat it.

These aspects can be seen in each of the 10 menu items. In the case of Rolled Samgyetang, anyone can now enjoy this dish without having to remove the bones. The chicken meat is thinly sliced and made into bite-sized rolls with ginseng.

Modern Bulbogi is another menu item in this style. Marinated beef is used to make patties that are roasted to a crisp on the outside, and yet which are still tender and juicy on the inside. The roasted patties are served on small, bite-sized slices of bread, garnished with a fresh salad. Anyone can enjoy the dish by grabbing the meat and bread together at the same time.

The 10 selected dishes also include special menu items that are made from local produce from Gangwon-do Province. One such dish is Mushroom and Corn Porridge. This dish is made from two main local staple foods of the province.

Mushroom and Corn Porridge is made from corn and pine mushrooms, both of which are major products from Gangwon-do Province.

Buckwheat and potatoes, two local specialties from Pyeongchang, are used to prepare Potato Bibimbap in Buckwheat Wraps. To make this delicious dish, you need to cook bibimbap mixed rice with chopped vegetable and potatoes, and then wrap the rice in a buckwheat skin, like a traditional Korean "lucky pouch" or bok-jumeoni (복주머니). This dish can delight both the eyes and mouths of food lovers everywhere.

Dried yellow pollack, another local specialty from Gangwon-do Province, is used to cook Grilled Dried Pollack With Steamed Rice. To make it, one needs to cook the rice with shredded dried yellow pollack. A piece of roasted dried yellow pollack is placed on top of the rice. This dish goes well with small green onions and aster, a sort of Korean green herb, or chwinamul (취나물).

Recipes for the 10 dishes will be provided to restaurants at major tourist attractions in Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Jeongseon, where the Olympic disciplines will be held.
