The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Nigeria on March 8 hosted a screening of the 2022 Korean film "Next Sohee" to mark International Women's Day, whose theme this year was "Inspire Inclusion." Attracting a large turnout, the event emphasized the importance of women's involvement in society.

Inspired by a true story, the movie uses the tragic tale of a young woman to criticize labor exploitation and emotional stress from a pressure-cooker environment.

Visitors to the event had plenty to say about the movie. Nimat Ajayi said, "My favorite characters in 'Next Sohee' are Sohee and the police officer because as female characters, they are no pushovers who can stand up for themselves when they need to. I love how both show different aspects of women and not just the pretty, humble and obedient sides."

Amarachi Amushi added, "To enrich the narratives of women, we must authentically depict their experiences in film and present them as complex and realistic individuals instead of social or media stereotypes. Women should embrace authenticity and reject societal pressure to conform. It's crucial to be genuine and unapologetically ourselves, sharing our true narratives without fear."

The KCC gave each attendee a rose and bread to express its appreciation and support on International Women's Day. The rose represented admiration and love, while the bread signified solidarity with women's empowerment and recognition of their contributions to society and right to equal economic opportunity.
