President Park Geun-hye attended a special prayer session at the Myungsung Church in Seoul on June 1, at 7 p.m. to console those who have suffered because of the Sewol ferry sinking and to pray for a recovery from this tragic accident.

President Park comforted the bereaved family members of the victims and prayed that those who are still missing would soon be found and come home to their families. The prayer meeting was held under the supervision of the Association of Korean Christian Churches (unofficial translation) in a wish to share the agony of the family members and to look back on the current situation in order to recover from the tragic accident. The association delivered an announcement during the meeting in which it appealed to the country to recover from the pain of national disaster and to build a safer, happier country by reestablishing principles and justice.

Meanwhile, President Park expressed her gratitude to the circles of Korean churches for consoling the bereaved family members of the victims and the missing people from the ferry sinking disaster through providing volunteer service, raising support funds and holding prayer meetings and making a special week for mourning for the accident.
