President Park Geun-hye has made a comment on the visit to Incheon by a high-profile North Korean delegation. "Ministerial-level meetings should not be a one-time event,” the president said on October 6. “The two Koreas must hold talks regularly to pave the way for a peaceful reunification."

During a senior secretariat meeting at Cheong Wa Dae the president said, "The delegation, including Hwang Pyong-so, director of the North Korean military’s General Political Bureau, attended the closing ceremony of the Asian Games in Incheon and held talks with senior South Korean officials. With the visit, I hope that South and North Korea will be able to open the door to peace through dialogue."

"In the past, inter-Korea relations have been in a vicious downward cycle, in which they worsen even after bilateral talks. Thus, there has been no progress. The two Koreas this time, however, agreed to hold a second round of high-level talks, and the agreement is meaningful as it is a turning point in inter-Korea relations."

"The national security office and the diplomatic and security teams need to talk with related ministries, including the Unification Ministry, and thoroughly prepare for the next meeting," she stressed.

"I expect that North Korea will act sincerely and show its willingness to improve inter-Korea relations, just as it asserted during its recent visit,” the president said.
