President Park Geun-hye expressed her condolences during the funeral of the former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, which was held at the University Cultural Center of the National University of Singapore on March 29.

In the guestbook, she wrote: “Lee Kuan Yew was a monumental leader of our time. His name will remain forever engraved in the pages of world history. The Korean people join all of Singapore in mourning his loss.”

During her trip to Singapore, President Park was also able to meet with other heads of state and hold some short conversations.

While meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the funeral, she proposed to, “take necessary follow-up measures according to agreements reached at the latest trilateral foreign ministers meeting among Korea, China and Japan.”

China’s Vice President Li Yuanchao congratulated President Park on signing the provisional agreement on the Korea-China free trade agreement, and proposed that the two countries should, “closely cooperate on the founding of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).” President Park responded by saying, “Let us cooperate well for the success of the AIIB,” while explaining the background surrounding Korea’s decision to join the project.

President Park also met other high-profile leaders, both former and incumbent heads of state. She held a dialogue about the Korea-U.S. alliance with former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former U.S. National Security Advisor Tom Donilon in a separate meeting. She also met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Myanmar President Thein Sein, Governor General of Canada David Johnston, Governor-General of New Zealand Jerry Mateparae and President of Israel Reuven Rivlin.
