Export registration can now be done online.

The Korea Customs Service announced that it introduced on Jan. 16 a new online export registration system where exporters can submit export-related documents online. Thanks to the newly adopted system, they no longer have to visit a customs office to hand over export-related documents. It's estimated that this will save up to KRW 1.6 billion at companies every year.

According to the customs authorities, 64 firms that participated in the test operation of the new system from Dec. 28 to Jan. 15 welcomed it. These firms said that the new system can greatly save costs and time, which used to be needed to handle customs procedures for exports, allowing them to better respond to urgent requests from their overseas customers.

The introduction of the new export registration system is part of the goals of the KCS to upgrade its e-customs system, Uni-Pass.

KCS Commissioner Chun Hong-uk said in a meeting with customs officials in September 2016 that, “The KCS will abolish the existing export registration system and introduce a paperless, online export customs system.” The single, unified UNIPASS system allows users to “pass” through customs by integrating all the necessary procedures at one point.
