President Moon Jae-in gave a positive assessment on the outcome of the G20 Summit, in Seoul on July 11.

While presiding over a cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae, President Moon said that, “Despite many difficult circumstances, we fortunately gained not-so-few outcomes in many one-on-one meetings at the G20 Summit, followed by the U.S. visit.”

“Although the North Korean nuclear weapons issue was not on the G20 Summit agenda, it was through our efforts that we created a consensus to make it one of the most important meeting agenda items,” he said.

President Moon also mentioned the trilateral summit among Korea, Japan and the U.S. where the three leaders announced a joint statement on North Korean nuclear and missile provocations, praising it as another successful outcome of the G20 Summit.

In regard to the Korea-Germany summit ahead of the G20 Summit, President Moon emphasized the significance of expressing the peace initiative proposed by the Korean government.

He noted that, “The door to resolving the North Korean nuclear weapons issue has not been yet opened.”

“With deep concern for the seriousness of the matter, we need to grasp that it’s not easy to reach agreement among the international community regarding sanctions on Pyongyang because of its provocations involving ballistic missiles,” the president added.
