President Moon Jae-in this weekend will attend summits of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC (Nov. 20), and the G20 (Nov. 21-22).

Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson Kang Min-seok on Nov. 17 told a briefing about the president's schedule in the two events.

At the APEC summit held under the theme "Optimising Human Potential towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritise. Progress," President Moon will explain Korea's experience in COVID-19, humanitarian assistance, and efforts to develop treatment and vaccines for the coronavirus.

The leaders of the 21 APEC countries taking part in the summit, including President Moon, will adopt the post-2020 APEC vision, a roadmap to guide the group for 20 years until 2040.

At the G20 summit held under the theme "Realizing Opportunities of the 21st Century For All," President Moon will discuss with other world leaders plans for overcoming COVID-19, boosting the capacity to respond to future pandemics, and measures aiming for policy coordination to ensure an inclusive and sustainable post-coronavirus era.

He will emphasize the importance of international cooperation for smooth movement of necessary personnel across borders and overcoming the pandemic. He will also urge the G20 to play a leading role in responding to climate change.

"This G20 summit will be an opportunity to reconfirm that the G20, which comprises two-thirds of the world's population and 80% of global GDP, is overcoming COVID-19 and leading global economic recovery through solidarity and cooperation," the spokesperson said.

The APEC and G20 summits will be held via videoconferencing due to COVID-19.
