Korea and Singapore have jointly held a media art festival in the Southeast Asian nation.

The inaugural Singapore Open Media Art Festival (SOMAF) was held at the Gillman Barracks, a modern art hub in the city state, from May 29 to May 31.

The festival was created to mark the 40th anniversary of the Korea-Singapore diplomatic relationship. For the festival, six Korean and Singaporean curators worked together on a range of exhibitions and 40 artists from Korea, Singapore and Europe produced their individual works based the theme "karma."

The National Arts Council's Deputy CEO Paul Tan, the National Art Gallery of Singapore's Director Eugene Tan and other key people in the country's arts circles and people from the Korean Embassy in Singapore attended the opening ceremony. Later, Chicks On Speed held a concert, one of the many artists invited with the cooperation of the Centre for Contemporary Art, and attracted a large audience.

Over the three days, over 4,000 people visited and enjoyed the exhibitions at galleries in the Gillman Barracks and the range of outdoor entertainment that was on offer.
