Pope Francis shared the pain of the bereaved family members who lost loved ones in the Sewol ferry disaster, during a procession before the beatification ceremony and Mass at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul on August 16. The pope got out of the car while greeting the people, and held the hands of Kim Young-oh, a father of one the victims. Kim has been on a hunger strike for 34 days. He begged the pope to, “not forget us,” via an interpreter. He handed a handwritten letter to the pope, who received it and put it in his pocket. The pope continued to console the bereaved family members who have suffered a great tragedy due to the unexpected ferry disaster.
