Samsung Electronics ranked top in the North American market

Samsung Electronics' share in the North American mobile phone market now exceeds 30 percent.
According to data from Strategy Analytics (SA), Samsung Electronics posted its highest market share yet of 31.4% by selling 16.1 million mobile phones in North America in the third quarter of this year. This is the ninth straight quarter that Samsung has been ranked first in the market.
This was the first quarter the company's share exceeded 30%, 5.9% higher than the third quarter of the last year. Its market share has consistently increased, from 21.5% in 2008 to 25.7% in 2009 to 31.4% as of the third quarter of 2010.
LG Electronics followed suit, with a market share of 17.2%, while Research In Motion held 11.5%, and Apple posted 11.3%. HTC's share of the mobile phone market tripled from last year, with a market share of 6.1%.
A spokesperson for SA said, "Samsung Electronics has launched various new mobile phones, including the Galaxy S, especially in the third quarter of this year."
The North American mobile phone market consumes up to 190 million phones each year, or some 10% of the worldwide mobile phone market. It is generally regarded as the most competitive and sensitive market, and is where most mobile phone companies introduce new products.
