Enjoy bike-riding, train travel along the 4 rivers
Oct 27, 2011
A special program involving bike-riding and train travel run by Korail has drawn the attention of travel lovers in Korea since its introduction on September 24.
For this program, a special train dubbed the “Green Bicycle Train” is used. This train can carry bicycles behind passenger cars so that bikers can travel comfortably with their bicycles.
This program is winning popularity these days thanks to the recent completion of the government’s river restoration project, which includes a new 1,187 meter-long bike road.
The program participants can enjoy both train travel and bike-riding along the four rivers -- the Han, the Geum, the Yeongsan, and the Nakdong Rivers -- while enjoying nature and the wonderful scenery.
This program is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and co-managed by the Korea Tourism Organization, Korail Tourism Development, and seven related municipal governments, including Okcheon, Iksan, and Gumi.
This week, the train program will take travelers to Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeognsang Province), on the Nakdong River on October 28-29 and to Naju, Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province) on the Yeongsan River on October 29-30.
The program also involves various recreational programs during the train ride, including sing-along events and concerts.
Those who do not bring their bikes can also join the program by renting bikes and helmets from bike rental booths located at each of the program destinations. People can also select which course they will travel depending on their physical condition.
The program participants can also enjoy local festivals and regional delicacies.
