HangulBot wows international crowd
Dec 13, 2011

The HangulBot, developed by a research team at POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology), won the prize for the most popular attraction on December 8 at the International Conference on Social Robotics 2011 held in the Netherlands. The HangulBot was designed based on the the uniquely phonetic aspect of the Korean language, with separate blocks for vowels and consonants. The robot, which was developed by, among others, POSTECH professor Kwak So-na (bottom picture, right) and undergraduate students Song Young-bin and Park Joon-sin, attracted much interest at the conference as a tool for non-Korean speakers to learn the basic principles of Hangeul in under three minutes.
