Various cultural events are scheduled to coincide with the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, a sporting event for the world's university students.

As part of the organizing committee's efforts to show off Gwangju's arts scene, there are many festivals scheduled for the city, including a gala event on the eve of the opening ceremony, events to be held at the Universiade Park, an International University Sports Federation (FISU) party, a youth fair and a celebration at the athletes' village.

The gala event on the eve of the opening ceremony will be held on July 2 and consists of musical programs that will catch the attention of Gwangju citizens and tourists alike. The Universiade Park festival, to be held near the main stadium during the Gwangju games from July 3 to July 14, will consist of performances and participatory events, and citizens, officials and athletes can all take part in it. It will feature authentic food from the Jeolla region, traditional Gwangju crafts and other things for people to enjoy and watch.

Many exciting events will be held at the athletes' village, where youth and students from over 150 countries will stay during the Universiade. Beginning on the second day of the Universiade, July 4, there will be many exhibits, performances and participatory events held there, including the making of traditional masks and fans, caricature drawings and face painting. In addition, there will be a youth festival that will include various singing and music contests at a square near the Asian Culture Complex.

Various pre-events to promote the Gwangju Universiade will be held across the country, including in Gwangju, Seoul and Busan, beginning on May 14, with 50 days remaining before the games. A promotional tower will be unveiled at the plaza in front of Gwangju City Hall and a statue of Nuribi, the Gwangju Universiade mascot, will be lit. There will be large flash-mobs and street parades in connection with social-networking sites, too.
