A comprehensive range of anti-terrorism exercises have been held across Gwangju as the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade approaches.

An anti-terrorism team and a safety response team for the Gwangju Universiade held drills at the main stadium on June 16. The comprehensive exercises were designed to prepare for potential terrorist attacks during the sporting event and involved 500 people from nine agencies from the private, government and military sectors.

The exercises took place according to different scenarios, including a bomb threat, arson, a gas explosion, a chemical attack and a drone attack targeted at spectators at the main stadium, as well as the kidnapping of athletes. The drills featured various equipment and vehicles that can measure chemical and radioactive contamination, food poisoning and those that can decontaminate poisoned items.

The anti-terrorism and safety authority said it focused on enhancing cooperation between related agencies, acquiring terrorism-related intelligence, controlling the situation, carrying out anti-terrorism operations and on improving its anti-terrorism manuals. .
