President-elect Park Geun-hye received a visit by Russian Ambassador to Korea Konstantin Vnukov at the Saenuri Party office in Yeouido, Seoul, on December 20, 2012, a day after the presidential election. The Russian envoy brought an autographed letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the Russian leader expressed his hope that the two leaders “can build good Korea-Russia relations and make a concerted effort to strengthen the strategic relationship between Korea and Russia.”

President-elect Park said in response that she hopes “Korea and Russia will closely cooperate for creating a mood for the peace and prosperity of the Northeast Asian region through conducting joint projects between Korea and Russia like gas pipelines, power plants, and railroad construction projects.”
