President discusses creative economy with Dreamworks CEO

President Park Geun-hye met with CEO and co-founder of Dreamworks Jeffrey Katzenberg on October 18 at Cheong Wa Dae to discuss the creative economy, cultural enrichment, administrative priorities for her administration, and cooperation in the animation industry.

During the meeting, President Park expressed her gladness to meet the Dreamworks CEO, saying that she personally enjoys watching the movies made by his world-leading U.S. animation company. She told Katzenberg that she is looking forward to seeing Kung Fu Panda 3, scheduled to be released in 2015.

“Korea has talented workers and high-end technology in the animation sector,” said the president, hoping that the Korean animation industry could cooperate with Dreamworks across a wide range of areas. She also mentioned Korea’s popular cartoon character Pororo and exchanged opinions with the CEO on ways in which Dreamworks and Korea’s TV animation industry could cooperate. “There will be many ways for Dreamworks, Korean animation firms and our government to cooperate,” she added.
